Newest Project: “Archived”

Archived (Working Title) is our 2nd and newest project. Unlike Valor, which is a free-to-play game, this will be a commercial work.

In Archived, you play as a budding scholar that lives in the secluded “Scholar’s Tower”, a place where the most brilliant of minds are gathered to continue improving the lifestyle and generation of mankind. There is no end to what you research! In fact, you find yourself assisting other Initiates like yourself with various researching tasks, learning about range of subjects from Historical Lore to Magick and Enchanting.

Not only are you studying to continue to raise your ranking in the Scholar’s Tower (which in turn grants you access to increasingly restricted knowledge), juggling the romantic coming-ons of two individuals is also something you have to deal with. Will you find yourself more than just a “study-buddy” with the bossy-but-cute Intiate Garnet? Or will your mind and heart elevate when you seek out the affections of the wise and compassionate Grand Master Emory? The choice is yours!

Of course, not everything is fine and dandy in the Scholar’s Tower. A strange “sickness” called The Omission is plaguing learners alike, forcing them to forget how to speak or read. Plus, several important books are starting to become vandalized right under people’s noses…

Book-worm you may be, but don’t assume you won’t have to fight to keep your very mind intact…

I hope you find this synopsis interesting! Let me know what you think! The game will be made utilizing the RPG Maker engine (as far as I know, unless I find someone whom is familiar is familiar with other engines to work on it with me).

Catch you all later!

A medieval warrior known as the Knight of Valor wakes up one evening to find shattered pieces of an Enchanted Mirror at his feet. While he has forgotten most of what has transpired within his Estate within the past few weeks, the Knight does recall that a Dark Power has captured a precious loved one inside of the Magick Mirror. In efforts to save them, he must explore the suddenly abandoned Estate for the missing Mirror Shards, as well as collect various pieces of his lost memory. Ultimately, his journey leads him to uncovering the truth about the Dark Power, forcing him to confront and do combat with various uncovered residents of his Estate.

[ While not explicit, this game does host adult themes. ]

Valor is meant to be an exploration game in which you unlock the character’s past and attempt to solve the mystery of what has been going on in the Estate for the past few weeks. There is little combat, the plot is linear, as it is supposed to be more of an interactive story.

Wow, so things got super busy since last I posted. It’s been a long while.

Anyway, I’m restarting. I’m rewriting my idea in order to be sure I can complete it; condensing, so that a first-timer like me can actually get through it! I’m going to make sure it’s story-driven, since that’s my strength, writing (that’s why I’m designing games… so someone will let me write for them)!

Anyway, more updates when things are all squared away. Wish me luck!

What the hell am I looking at. That was pretty much what I was thinking when I first opened up the event planning page, and for a moment, I was starting to believe this project was going to be an undertaking that extended beyond my normal scope of capability.

I had started working a bit on my main map piece by piece, but I decided to go ahead and map out the first room the story would take place at an do a little scene creation, mainly to see what I was capable of doing and how well I could execute what was written on my script.

As you can see, the scripting is marked off into “steps” with a @ at each one. There’s a huge list with a bunch of event editing options; some are easy to understand on sight “Add Text”, while others you would have to click on them to take a peek inside or hover over it to read the description.

It took me two nights to finish my first scene. Adding sound effects, making sure the scene played our right… it was like simultaneously directing a movie and working on intense programming. There is a script for real programming inside, but like hell I’m touching that. All-in-all, there’s a bit of a learning curve, but I think after I do a couple of more scenes, I’ll be able to navigate faster. Lets get this game rolling!

World Building

So, I started tinkering with the maps and after making a terrible backdrop at first (and not knowing how to scale things properly to what I felt I might need, I decided to begin working with a premade template and see how to proceed from there on out. And a good thing, too! I was doing a crappy job.

I searched and found Field 5, which overall had the layout I wanted, but not the look. Admittedly, the snow and winter setting was a little inspiring, as at first I was planning on the antagonist’s castle, the Dark King, have a more fire-and-lava and all things black and red be the visual. However, the more I tinkered with the map, the more drawn I felt towards making it more “cold” looking. So, the higher up, the mountains become snow-capped, there are glaciers in the water, etc.

I’m getting pretty excited, to be honest. While I can see the parent in the original Field 5, it already looks like a different map.

I’ve Decided to Dream

I’ve created this chunk of Tumblr in order to document the project I’m beginning on; an RPG called Relic. I think anyone who has played a game has at least had a dream about making one. Those who are interested, they may, like myself, have a dream game they hope to make in the future, one day, when they have the dream team of character designers, programmers, storyboard artists, the works.

Reading about getting into the video game industry is a hell of a task too, and not all that inspiring. It sounds and looks hard, and I’m sure it is! So what does it take to become a pro, starting from the ground up?

Relicis the story I’ve come up with for my starting RPG. I want to create something linear, with a clear-cut an memorable storyline and lovely characters. I want it to be engaging, but simple. I’ve decided to try using RPG Maker VX Lite for this starting game, in hopes to see what the program is like, what I can do with it, and see what it’s like to be a designer of a game that I can play, as well as friends and people I don’t even know.

This blog will be dedicated to updates on every game aspect, from character development, storyline, art, and programming.I thought if I updated this for anyone to see, if people started following, they could provide advice, encouragement, and prod me into moving my lazy ass on it, if I falter or sway from the course. You may end up knowing the entire game before you play it! But that’s okay. In the end, Relic is going to be freeware and available for anyone to play, so I hope you give it a shot. But we have to get there, first!

At the moment of writing this, my goal is pursue a career in script-and-story writing for a video game company. Currently, my project is Relic, but I am always working on writing and developing the aforementioned “dream game”, working title: Soren. I am twenty-six-years-old, and work for a major financial corporation, which, while it has given me hyper-awareness of the finance market, is not what I want to do with the rest of my life. I’ve had articles published in a few magazines and on various websites, but nothing that has helped push my way through the creative field. By this time next year, I hope that I have made serious progress with Relic and have learned more about the video game industry as a whole.

Follow along, and lets dream together!
